Wheels’ Meals Summer Break

As some of you may have noticed, Wheels’ Meals has been on hiatus for quite some time.

I went to the Philippines with my mother on May 5th, and had to abandon my usual medium of instantly uploaded cell phone photos. I photographed nearly everything I ate in the Philippines until the last couple weeks, when a camera mishap prevented me from doing so. Upon returning to the US on June 25th, I fully intended to resume Wheels’ Meals as usual, but this time my cell phone network has failed me. In fact, as I perused old entries, it seems the picture messages have failed to go through on numerous occasions. I have continued photographing my food with my D80, but have put off uploading the backlog of entries. I have begun to contemplate why I continue to keep this food diary.

Wheels’ Meals may seem obsessive, but it is not exhaustive. Because it is not quantitative (calorie-counting, # of portions consumed, carb/protein/fat ratio, etc), it is not a reliable source for nutritional information. I don’t record any data besides what I consume. At the beginning, I also documented where and with whom I ate. In this way, Wheels’ Meals was a record my life via food. When I got sick, I stopped listing my location because I was confined to my parents’ home post-hospitalization. It only deepened my depression about leaving New York to constantly add “1620 Clearwater” to every entry. I failed to see it at the time, but my location and companions were what gave Wheels’ Meals dimension. It is not a dieter’s intake diary.

As I continue to figure out the best way to continue this project, personal as it is, I will keep you guys posted. Feel free to unfollow if you’re sick of my Meals!

∞Love,
Wheels
